They lost power when Servet Çetin, their captain and defender of the national team, left the club to join Galatasaray SK, one of the big three. Sivasspor hope to maintain their successful place in the league thanks to their powerful striker Mehmet Yıldız and their explosive forward Pini Balili. Sivasspor is the team which the footballer Roberto Carlos scored his first goal for Fenerbahçe SK. It is also Sivasspor that is now considered the Fifth Bigger Team of Turkey alongside Galatasaray SK, Fenerbahçe SK, Beşiktaş JK and Trabzonspor as they finished the first half of the season on first place. The team has to struggle with a number of injuries and bad playgrounds, due to the harsh winters in the city of Sivas. In March 2008 Sivasspor are trying to negotiate a deal with Finnish international Mika Väyrynen, who is currently playing for PSV.
